Marshmallowy fun

Although I like to eat healthily when possible, I do enjoy sweet treats, and I do love to bake. I at least try and have a healthy eating day if I know I’m then going to be making something unhealthy later. I quite often end up taking things I’ve baked into work with me, as it removes the temptation of having them sitting on the kitchen counter (with the added bonus of making you popular in the office). Sadly I haven’t done much baking in the last two weeks as it’s been Ramadan, and not really acceptable to take lots of baked goods into the office. As a mix up from the exercise related posts that I have put up so far, here is the first of a few food-related posts (and not a healthy one to start off with!). If you are trying to avoid sugar, this is not one for you. Thought I’d get it out of the way before I attempt a Whole30 when I get back from holiday!

Finished marshmallow squares. Makes you very popular amongst work colleagues when you take these to work at the beginning of the week!

Training whilst on the move

Already I have been meaning to update this more regularly than I have, and I’ve only done one post so far. The last week has been a very busy one – I’ve been away on fieldwork further down the coast all week. Which brings me nicely to the topic of this next post – Training on the move. Normally I will just pack my running kit, and head out for a run if I go somewhere new, or use the hotel gym if there is one. When you’re training for something specific, or have got yourself a fairly set routine in place exercise-wise, it can be difficult to adapt this when you go away, whether it’s for holiday, travelling or business.

Not the most interesting running view, but hey, at least it's not a treadmill right?

An Introduction to Adventure Racing

I have been meaning to start a blog for a long time. I love to talk, and going back through my external hard drive over the last few weeks, I’ve discovered that I wrote race reports for far more races than I can remember, in addition to some general (and sometimes quite random) bits and bobs on training, travelling, and all sorts inbetween. So, I thought that I might as well put some of these reports up. Some of them are from races a few years ago, but to me they all represent something special, mostly my first attempt at various challenges, or trying something new. This post in particular is all about my first attempt at adventure racing, something that I’m hoping to do some more of! As a bit of fun, I’d taken a disposable camera with me, just so we could get some photos for posterity. It was such a fun day (and such lovely weather) that I’m glad I lugged the extra weight around :) Continue reading
